We are proud to share the exciting news that Illinois is now home to the 100th Fisher House, located at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago.
Fisher Houses provide comfort homes for military and veteran families, offering a free place to stay while their loved ones receive care at VA hospitals and military medical centers. This milestone house represents a profound commitment to supporting those who serve and their families during times of need.
Having the 100th Fisher House here is not just an honor for Illinois—it's a symbol of gratitude and respect for our heroes.

Home of the 2nd Illinois Fisher House

The Fisher House at the Captain James A Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC), opened July 29, 2025, and is the United States' first federal health care center that partners the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense into a single, fully integrated federal health care facility.
HOW YOUR MILITARY FAMILIES QUALIFY FOR THIS HUMANITARIAN PROGRAM
Fisher House guests must be accompanying individuals of the patient who is receiving an episode of care at Hines VA Hospital or Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center. All guests must meet the lodging criteria outlined in VHA Directive 1107 to qualify for temporary accommodations in the Fisher House. This is completely free of charge with the help of Friends of Fisher House-Illinois.

Topping Off Ceremony
Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center North Chicago, Illinois
The final beam was placed on the entranceway of the 100th Fisher House located at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (Lovell FHCC) in North Chicago, IL during a “Topping Off” Ceremony.
This comfort home will support families receiving care at Lovell FHCC, which offers a wide range of health, support, and facility services for Veterans, military members and their families in northeastern Illinois and southeastern Wisconsin.
Families stay at no-cost while their service member or Veteran is receiving medical care.
