What We Do

A Fisher House is a “home away from home” where active military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is undergoing a medical crisis.

Every night, 1,100 military families are sleeping safely in a Fisher House.

To date 92 homes are located at major military and VA medical centers nationwide, close to the medical center or hospital they serve. Fisher Houses typically have 16 - 20 suites, with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a community dining room and living room.

Friends of Fisher House-Illinois ensures that there is never a lodging fee plus provides all food and beverages and quality of life outings for families. Since inception, the nationwide Fisher House program has saved military and veterans’ families an estimated $407 million in out of pocket costs for lodging and transportation. It All Started Because of One Man (Click here)

Who is Friends of Fisher House-Illinois (FOFH-IL)?

We are the completely volunteer non-profit whose mission is to sustain the 20-private-bedroom-suite Hines VA Fisher House and the future 16-private-bedroom-suite Lovell Fisher House in Illinois.

We raise funds, solicit grants and conduct events to fulfill our mission. Friends of Fisher House-Illinois ensures that there is never a lodging fee plus provides all food and beverages and quality of life outings for our military families who sacrifice so much for our freedom and safety.

Hines Fisher House with the support of FOFH-IL provided 13,000 families (26,000 individuals) with free lodging with meals since 2010, saving Veterans and their families $1.5million in out-of-pocket costs.
